Syn-Ake

Snake venom as a cure for wrinkles?  You’ve got to be kidding me right?  Was that your reaction when you first read about Syn-Ake?  It sure was mine.  We’re always the skeptic because we’ve seen so many of these “revolutionary” products come and go that it’s made us hard believers.

Syn-Ake sure is a strange concept but since we’re committed to review all types of facial treatments let’s take a closer at how this product claims to cure wrinkles, bags and lines from appearing on the face.

How does Sny-Ake work?

Turns out, it’s not really snake venom but that’s the way they make it sound right?  The active ingredient is called Waglerin 1, which is similar to a compound used in the Asian Temple Snake’s venom to paralyze or restrict muscle movement.

Overtime the billions of facial movements a face makes can leave it “scarred” with all types of marks including winkles and lines.  So Pentapharm, the Swiss manufacturer of this product, hopes that their compound, based on the muscle relaxer in the snake’s venom, will limit the facial movements in the skin by interfering with the transmissions sent to the muscles telling them to contract.

The theory is, the less the muscle moves the less opportunity there is for lines and wrinkles to appear.  It’s similar in concept to a couple of other products we’ve reviewed called Snap-8 or Argireline.  It’s also a similar in theory to botox minus the needles.

From what we can tell, most of the research is not conducted by an independent, third-party. The only studies we could find were done by the manufacture, and although they were impressive, they were done by the manufacture. Unfortunately, because this stuff is fairly new there’s not a lot of info out there yet.

The way we see it

Listen there are worse products out there, and yea it seems a bit odd to use snake venom as you’re main marketing tool I guess it’s not too hard to swallow that it could work.  We like Argireline, another product that works similar to how Sny-Ake works so that helps out in our mind.  If you wanted to take a shot at it, we wouldn’t stop you.  It has potential.
